Formed September 2005 by friends Marc and Matthew, Scythia began with a recycled plywood electric guitar from the back room, an incomplete drum kit and no amps. Bass player Monty was added to the line up before the first rehearsal, Josh was brought in as lead guitarist after a few weeks, and rhythm guitarist Greenie also tagged along for the ride. By Christmas, all gear was bought and in January 2006, the band began rehearsing properly. |

Six months later, the band entered the studio for the first time to record their debut EP of six cover songs. The EP's title (Not So Smoothed Out, Slap Happy) gave a nod to the title of Green Day's first LP, and also referenced the rough, unpolished nature of the recordings. The EP was released in September 2006, and was well received by most at the time. |

Shortly after this release, Greenie left the band due to other commitments, leaving the current line up. Later in the year, Scythia used one of their cover songs from this EP ('Buck Rogers' - Feeder) to enter XFM Manchester's rock school competition; an entry that gained them some airplay and a top 10 finish out of over 90 bands. |

In early 2007, Scythia took part in the Royal Northern College of Music scheme 'Sound Ideas' to kick start their production of original material. Eight sessions with 'producer' Kay Michael resulted in five songs completed, including 1st single 'Sky Blue', contemplative 2nd single 'Lonely Among Them' and live favourite 'Shoebox'. The band also gained a headlining slot at the Manchester Academy 4 through this collaboration. |

| Now, new original songs are coming together faster than ever, and Scythia have started to build a reputation for their energetic live performances. Their debut LP is scheduled for release in late 2008/early 2009. | ||
